ECONOMIC REASONS OF THE AGGRAVATION OF THE POLITICAL SITUATION IN PAKISTAN

Abstract

The article discusses the main economic reasons that created the social background, on which the internal political situation in the Islamic Republic of Pakistan has sharply worsened since February 2022. The author identifies several trends – a slowdown in economic growth, a collapse in the foreign exchange markets, an increase in inflation, and external debt, growing poverty and income inequality – as demonstrating the failures of the government led by Prime Minister Imran Khan. At the same time, these were not the reasons, according to the author, that led to the replacement of the government in April 2022, but factors of the other, political and foreign policy, nature.
