Abstract

• Packet classification (at network edge) – Mandatory to permit to switching devices to distinguish between different clients, flows, or traffic classes – Fundamental to define different QoS levels to data classified as belonging to different flows – It also enables differentiated pricing policies – Executed at network edge • Either directly by hosts or more likely by dedicated devices in ingress routers – Based on IP addresses, applications, services, packet content .....
