Abstract

An improved technique using a hot-wire probe is proposed in order to obtain a more reliable velocity vector field which is less strongly influenced by the prong wake of the hot-wire probe. In the present experiment, a parallel triple hot-wire probe was used and the velocity vectors were determined by a phase-averaging technique and the general response equations. The hot-wire probe was set not only parallel to (conventional technique) but also obliquely to the coming flow direction (improved technique). The improved technique was applied to the near wake flow field of a two-dimensional square-section cylinder.
