Abstract

Space and transmission direction should be considered to give an additional degree of freedom for wireless coexistence in several contemporary applications. Multiple-element arrays allow beam-steering in both radar and fifth-generation (5G) wireless systems. In sharing the wireless spectrum, coexistence in both the spectral and spatial domains can be simultaneously considered. This paper considers how spatial beamforming considerations can be added to spectral masking to govern and confine wireless transmissions as a function of both transmission angle and transmission frequency, and how this framework can be used to promote real-time, adaptive coexistence between different wireless systems.
