However, considering the fact that the end-to-end QoS is not supported eventually in current Internet, the BE service is expected to be one of the key applications developed in WiMAX network. As a broadband wireless extension to Internet, the BE service would be prevalent because it may include most of the popular data services such as FTP, HTTP, etc. This paper focuses on the resource management of multiple parallel BE connections per subscriber station (SS). In order to reduce the MAC overhead, we propose to use only one unique CID/SFID for all the BE service flows per SS in the downlink and uplink directions, respectively. Within the BE service class, finer subcategorizing is supported which includes throughput-sensitive and delay-sensitive subcategories. In this way, a second-level subcategory management method is proposed to provide an internal scheduling among different BE traffic for better user experience.
