Abstract
Insulators plays a major role in power transmission system, which provides mechanical support to conductors and are used to decrease the leakage current flowing from conductor to earth. In this paper, the author attempts to design and study of voltage distribution and electric field distribution of various types of disc insulators when they are stressed by high voltages. In this paper, OPERA electromagnetic field analysis software is used to setup a two-dimensional model and FEM is employed to simulate 132 KV insulator strings with various types of porcelain, glass and composite disc insulators. The OPERA-2d/ST and Lossy Dielectric programs are used to return the field parameters, including the electric field intensity distribution as well as the distribution of the potential on the surface of insulator. The results obtained for various insulators were compared.
