Abstract
In undergraduate energy conversion classes usually available to electrical engineering students the transformer voltage equation which is derived from Faraday's law comes up in the solution of problems on magnetic circuits and transformers. This paper provides closed form solutions for the flux through unsaturated magnetic circuits of simplified geometry which undergraduate students can easily relate to. The RMS voltage induced is calculated and it is shown that the equation produces the correct voltage for a given applied peak flux but will not yield the correct peak flux when re-arranged unless the specific geometry is fully taken into consideration.
