Abstract

The fast development in the power system restructuring led to a change in the traditional view of the power systems where novel concepts emerged. To maximize the generated power from renewable energy sources while reduce the cost and improving the reliability, the concept of the Microgrid has been adopted. Microgrids defined as a group of distributed generation, loads as well as storage components. As a first step a planning stage of Microgrids is, maximize the benefits of distribution generation installation where the central power plant is not practical or in case of remote areas. The main objectives of optimal sizing and siting of distribution generation are loss minimization; maximize the reliability and power quality and improvement the voltage profile and system efficiency. This paper gives a brief review on the fundamental of distributed generation technologies and the classical and modern siting and sizing approach techniques. In this context, the comprehensive reviews is carried out with a comparative between the applied methods, goals, advantages and disadvantage. As recommendations, future trends techniques are proposed.
