Abstract

The complexity of the modern grid is continuously increasing due to various factors such as renewable energy resources integration, stochastic electricity demand pattern, component outages etc. which causes the grid to operate under highly stressed conditions. These stressed conditions should be captured accurately to prevent large scale outages. The emerging Synchrophasor Technology has outperformed the existing SCADA/EMS in the power system monitoring and control. But its large scale implementation has many challenges ahead. This paper highlights the application and key challenges in its wide implementation in the power grid.
