The document driving these standards is the Fixed and Mobile Standard (FMS) sponsored by the Strategic Defense Initiative Organization (SDIO). It calls for use of the POSIX operating system interface, Ada programming language, X Windows user interface, SQL database interface, TCP/IP networking, Ethernet protocols, VME hardware, and standard packaging methods.
