Abstract
Teeth loss causes a harmful impact on the lives of these people, affecting their ability to chew and speak, in addition to their aesthetics and self-esteem. It is also known that totally edentulous patients have a preference for implant-supported fixed complete dentures. The present study aims to investigate the clinical, systemic and prevention parameters of patients with prosthetic protocol on dental implants. This is an observational and cross-sectional study that included a convenience sample of 18 patients with fixed complete dentures on dental implants. For data collection, a questionnaire with 13 closed questions was carried out through GoogleForms®, sent by email or through the WhatsApp® messaging application to patients. A total of 13 (72.2%) patients had periodontal disease involved in the loss of their teeth. 77.8% of those investigated were taking some medication, 61.1% had diabetes and 11.1% had diabetes and hypertension together. Most used only brushing or brushing with mouthwash (77.7%) and half (50%) never had their dentures maintained or cleaned at the dentist. It can be concluded that periodontal disease is a determining cause of tooth loss in patients who use prostheses protocol on implants. In addition, the high prevalence of diabetes and the lack of professional maintenance may influence the future loss of implants due to peri-implant diseases.
