Abstract

A new study based on the negative sequence voltage (NSV) method to detect and diagnosis an incipient interturn short-circuit (ITSC) fault of a closed-loop controlled permanent magnet synchronous generator is proposed. The strategy is based on the use of the amplitude and the phase angle of the NSV to detect and diagnosis an inter-turn short circuit fault with the impact of closed loop control system.This paper presents the behavior of the fault on the different variables of the machine. Therefore, the amplitude of the NSV can be considered as an indicator to detect the appearance of ITSC fault while the phase angle of the NSV can be considered as a robust indicator to locate the faulty phase.
