Abstract
In this paper, a compact metamaterial-inspired dual-band antenna with a defected ground structure is proposed for sub-6 GHz communication. The design consists of stubs, defected ground structure (DGS), and a metamaterial structure. The objective of this work is to miniaturize the planar antenna resonating at 2.4 GHz. DGS has been employed to shift the resonance frequency of an antenna from 5 GHz to 2.4 GHz by altering the antenna current distribution. By placing a split-ring resonator (SRR) in the defected ground plane, the dual-band characteristics at 2.4 GHz and 5.25 GHz attained. Design and simulations are performed using the CST microwave studio.
