Abstract

In this paper, we focus on Smart Cities, particularly revolution at the edges of the fabric, examining the objectives for developing a Smart City and the direct link between the business/requirements model and its delivery through services, applications, sensors and edge networks. We will provide an overview of how cities are developed and a view of how a Smart City is characterised. Whilst intelligent fabrics create the potential for a Smart City, it is the market that determines how the technology is exploited. We will consider what that market looks like and, in particular, who the stakeholders are, from both market research and academic perspectives. Our assessment of the Smart City's enabling fabrics will cover early applications and the current evolution of implementation in the UK and Italy.
