The economic impacts of World Heritage Site designation on local communities.

Abstract

Abstract This chapter discusses the economic impacts of tourism on local communities generally before focusing on the economic impacts of World Heritage status and tourism at World Heritage sites (WHSs). Access to funding by WHSs is examined, as well as the impacts on employment, income, and cost of living and local people's views on these impacts. A brief case study is presented on the economic impacts of tourism in natural WHSs in Africa.
