Abstract

Established by small towns, Cittaslow movement is an organization that aims to save local values of these small towns by setting criteria and applying them to candidate and member cities. Becoming about 250-member organization in five continents in a short period of time shows this movement’s impact. Therefore, becoming such an effective movement in worldwide in a short time of nineteen years and offering people in member cities a life beyond the routine shaped by globalization, Cittaslow movement necessitates investigating the fact in such frame. In this respect, this study aims to depict citizens’ perception about activities in Seferihisar, the first Cittaslow in Turkey, since being a Cittaslow member in 2009. Within this scope, as a result of the questionnaire conducted in Seferihisar, it is concluded that most of the Cittaslow criteria have been fulfilled by the municipality although some local residents have stated that there are deficiencies in some policy practices.
