Abstract

In most of the present day bio applications, an abundance of bio and medical data is generated. In many instances, this data may be generated at a specified 1/0 location and it needs to be transferred to the main memory of the computer system for further processing and interpretation. Speed of data transfer is of utmost importance. One possible and most widely used mechanism is the Direct Memory Access (DMA) for high speed data transfers. The other method is based upon the multi or parallel processing. The former method is more applicable in small to medium sized systems while the later is widely used in large systems. In this article, We will discuss the technical aspects of the DMA based data transfers which are well suited in the bio engineering environment.
