Sir Herbert Jackson, 1863 - 1936

Abstract

Emeritus Professor Sir Herbert Jackson, K.B.E., FR.S., was born at Hampstead on 17 March , 1863. From King’s College School he entered King’s College, London, in 1879, and worked as student, Daniell Scholar, and Student-Demonstrator under Professor C. L. Bloxam until the latter’s retirement in 1887, much of his work being carried out in Professor Bloxam’s private laboratory . He was appointed Lecturer in Chemistry shortly after John Millar Thomson had succeeded Bloxam , became Assistant Professor in 1902, and Professor of Organic Chemistry in 1905.
