Italy: The Mainstream Right and its Allies, 1994–2018

Abstract

es the mainstream, centrist and radical right components covered in this study. We then present the chapter ’ s analytical strategy based on the identi fi cation of three main phases of recent centre-right politics in Italy: breakthrough (1994 – - 2001); government (2001 – 2011); and decay (2011 – 2018). After a discussion of demand-and supply-side factors across these three phases, we conclude by presenting the implications of our fi ndings for future research on the interaction between mainstream and radical components of the political right in Europe.
