Abstract

The paper gives contributions on the characterization of arbitrary AC winding structures used in rotating field electrical machines. The wide range of winding layouts imposes the maximum generality of the methodology used to compute the winding distributions and the winding factors for each spatial harmonic order. The authors found that the single-conductor distribution concept allows for maximum freedom in the definition of the winding functions. The proposed approach is easily implementable in design code for quick evaluation and comparison of different single- and multi-phase AC windings.
