Abstract
We are developing generic Data Acquisition Systems technology for very high data rate experiments using the generic technology available in the commercial world. We feel that it is now possible to have front-end electronics being readout by Ethernet (standard, Fast, Gigabit and Terabit in the next century) and just plug this into the wall network. Why not! Already electric power, telephones and in most laboratories 10 Mbit/sec Ethernet is already part of the wall wiring. We can dream of having buildings wired for Gigabit Ethernet. Then it is possible to just plug all our front-end data spigots into the wall and let the network take care of the delivery of the data.
