CARTOGRAPHIC SUPPORT IN REGIONAL MEDICAL-ECOLOGICAL STUDIES: THE EXAMPLE OF ALTAY KRAY, RUSSIA

Abstract

Two geographers describe a comprehensive program of cartographic support for medical-ecological studies of a specific Russian region, Altay Kray in West Siberia. Assessment of a wide variety of multi-scalar cartographic products reflecting diverse approaches to regionalization provides the data needed for a qualitative and quantitative characterization of medical-ecological problem areas and situations. These areas and situations in turn serve as the initial units for a medical-ecological regionalization of Altay Kray.
