Monitoring the Sanje Mangabey Population in Tanzania While Engaging the Local Community

Abstract

In order to successfully create and implement conservation management plans for endangered primates it is essential to work within local communities. This has been our approach in the Udzungwa region of Tanzania, where the Sanje Mangabey Project has worked since 2006 monitoring mangabey demography and behavioral ecology in collaboration with local field technicians. We have also partnered with local primary schools to improve infrastructure and raise awareness of conservation issues
