Abstract

The natural and anthropic degradation of ecosystems and watercourses is a concern throughout the planet for the importance of water for human survival and nature, which makes the debate on ecosystem services constant with the application and development of instruments that can reduce and even remedy global or local water scarcity, as well as promote the conservation of river basins. The purpose of this study is to conceptually approach the hydrological modeling and payment for environmental services - PES in the decision-making process for the conservation of River Basins. The methodology used was bibliographical and documentary research. We trace through concepts the trajectory from ecosystem services that are the basis for hydrological modeling and PES which in turn are tools used in the decision-making process in water management, ending with the approach of water governance, where managers plan, make strategic decisions for action in policies on water resources management. Thus, the literature shows that the use of hydrological modeling with the use of SWAT and PSA are the instruments more focused on the recovery and conservation of watersheds in their
