This paper presents the fuzzy logic based protection scheme for detection and classification of shunt faults in a three phase series compensated transmission line. A 735 kV, 60 Hz series compensated three phase single circuit transmission lines has been simulated using simulink and simpowersystems toolbox of MATLAB software. The proposed method is based on the fundamental component of voltage measurement of each phase which is provided as input to the fuzzy logic based fault detector and classifier. The proposed scheme has been tested with different symmetrical and unsymmetrical fault cases with variation in fault location, fault resistance and fault inception angle. Abstract
