Abstract

UWB sensor has recently attracted considerable attention for various consumer applications such as home security and vital-sign monitoring because it has anti-fading capability and the high range resolution. Especially stepped-FM UWB sensor does not need high speed processors unlike UWB-IR. A high range resolution, however, the maximum detectable range should be limited depending on the step frequency bandwidth. In this paper, the use of multiple step frequencies scheme is suggested to meet the requirement for higher range-resolution and increased maximum detectable range.
