Abstract
In a railway system, the timetable containing the arrival and departure times of all trains at each station is most essential for train operation. Due to the size of the problem, conventional operation research's optimization procedures are not applicable. In this paper, the authors propose a knowledge-based approach to railway scheduling. The simulation result and the resulting schedule for local scheduling have satisfactory performance.<>
