Abstract
Organizations use reference functional architectures to guide their development or use them to be compliant. At the moment, to the knowledge of the authors, a reference functional architecture to manage business decisions and business logic does not yet exist. A field that focuses specifically on the management of these business decisions and business logic is Business Rules Management (BRM). The goal of this study is to follow-up on an earlier study and analyze functional requirements from seven Dutch governmental institutions with regards to the Verification, Validation, Deployment, and Execution BRM capabilities. To do so, three thematic coding rounds to analyze 157 functional requirements are conducted, which resulted in 18 functional categories that are mapped to the four BRM capabilities within the scope of this study. The results add new functional categories to a reference functional architecture for BRM capabilities, which also identifies new directions for future research.
