Causes of dyspepsia include upper gastrointestinal disorders such as peptic ulcer, other gastrointestinal disorders including irritable bowel syndrome, or it can be the result of systemic disease or unwanted effect of drugs . The prevalence of dyspepsia has varied between 7-34.5% (3-5). Guidelines from the United Kingdom (3) and Canada (4) use the term to mean all symptoms referable to the upper gastrointestinal tract whereas the ROME II definition excludes patients with predominant reflux symptoms.
