Abstract

This article describes my PhD research to date and my plans for future work. The mission of this PhD is to bring flexible and customisable sensing and actuation to a broad new range of devices. My research thus far has focused on μPnP [9], a system that supports plug-and-play integration of embedded sensors and actuators with the Internet of Things (IoT) at extremely low power and cost. My future work will focus on the creation of a sensing module for mobile phones and supporting middleware that realizes platform-independent and secure sensing using networks of smartphones.
