Abstract
This paper presents the effect of supply voltage on partial discharge properties in solid dielectric. The study characterizes a pre-developed model which represents void in a solid dielectric. This model is used to investigate the interaction between discharges in such void in a solid dielectric when high AC voltage is applied to the system. Void and solid dielectric parts are represented as lumped capacitances, while the resistances of the test voltage source are taken into consideration. The simulation of partial discharge activity due to presence of a small cylindrical void inside the solid insulation material of high voltage power equipment is simulated using Electromagnetic Transients Program (EMTP). The waveforms of the voltage across the void and the voltage across the neighbouring parts of the solid dielectric have been traced by using EMTP. Simulation results indicated that the model is able to identify the correlation between input voltage with respect to peak partial discharge voltage and induced capacitance in the system.
