The Rate of Gastric Emptying in Patients with Gastric Ulcer

Abstract

The rate of gastric emptying was studied using the acetaminophen method in 35 normal subjects and 85 gastric ulcer patients. The gastric emptying rate was significantly lower in gastric ulcer patients than in normal subjects (p<0. 05) . Among the patients with gastric ulcer, those with a smoking habit had a markedly low gastric emptying rate (p<0. 05). Such a tendency was also observed in normal subjects. The smoking load on normal subjects with a smoking habit caused a marked decrease in the gastric emptying rate (p<0. 05) . Administration of domperidone to gastric ulcer patients significantly increased the gastric emptying rate.
