8 The reason fo r being of microcomputer BASIC is simply to provide a workable language so tha t people w i l l buy microcomputers. Insofar as I know no one has ever claimed that BASIC uses the resources of a system organized in 8 b i t words to i t s maximum benef i t ; BASIC has appeared on the microcomputer scene simply by de fau l t . I t works and i t is easy to learn and use. I t se l l s microcomputers.
