Challenges for Youth Employment in Transition Countries - With Special Treatment Kosovo

Abstract

Unemployment among young people is one of the challenges that continues to face every country without distinction, especially countries in transition. In the case of Kosovo, the challenges have been even greater, given the fact that many processes are intertwined, such as state building, changing the system from a centralized one to a market economy, developing democracy, etc. Young people in Kosovo continue to see no prospects for the future of the country, precisely because of the difficulties in finding a job. Undoubtedly, many factors have had an impact on the existence of high levels of unemployment, especially the protracted transition that has taken place as a result of the non-resolution of the final status of citizenship for a long time. In addition, the state of many years of occupation and war, have left long-term consequences on the overall development of Kosovo, especially on the economic development of the country.

This paper reflects some of the challenges that young people face in employment in transition countries, with a special treatment in the Republic of Kosovo.
