Counting the cost

Abstract

The summer my older sister returned home from college, my mom pulled me aside and asked me if I was aware that I had begun to speak of my older sister by her name. It wasn’t that I had begun to address my older sister by name, which I have never done in my life. Rather, I had started to call her “Grace” when I alluded to her in the third person in my conversations with neighbors and friends. This was new behavior that my sister noticed, and it bothered her.
