Abstract
IEEE 802.11 is the WLAN standard for providing moderate to high speed data communication in a short range generally within a building. IEEE 802.16 (WiMAX) is the standard for broadband WMANs which can provide Internet access over a long range outdoor environment susceptible to fading inside buildings. The logical topology to extend the coverage of the broadband WiMAX is to integrate it with WLAN at customer premises equipments (CPE). However providing QoS in such an integrated environment is a challenging issue. In this paper, we have proposed an integration model and a base station assisted scheduling mechanism to be implemented at the CPE to provide QoS guarantee. We have analyzed the algorithm through extensive simulation and showed that QoS can be provided for real-time and non-real-time traffic over the broadband integrated network.
