Abstract
This paper presents a design and application of sliding mode control (SMC) scheme for the robust speed control of a permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) subjected to system parameter and load variations. A linearized model of a PMSM is derived and conventional proportional-integral-derivative (PID) and SMC speed controller are designed respectively.
