Abstract

Proper non-linear load sharing between different distributed energy resources (DERs) can be employed for improvement power quality in microgrids. In this paper, two methods of non-linear load sharing are introduced which are based on harmonic spectrum allocation to the inverters. The first method uses the “virtual digital filter” concept and the second one utilizes the on-line optimization capability of model predictive control (MPC). In the last part of the paper, these two methods of harmonic spectrum sharing are simulated using distinct philosophies to show their figure of merits for harmonic load sharing applications.
