ANALYSIS OF THE SOCIAL TRACES OF LIBERALISM THROUGH THE FILM ZÜĞÜRT AĞA

Abstract

İletişim ve Medya Çalışmaları LİBERALİZMİN TOPLUMSAL İZLERİNİN ZÜĞÜRT AĞA FİLMİ ÜZERİNDEN ANALİZİ ÖZ Bu çalışmada liberalizm ve liberalizmin ortaya çıkış koşulları irdelenerek, neden ve sonuçları arasındaki ilişkiler Züğürt Ağa filmi ekseninde toplumsal, ekonomik, siyasi ve kültürel bağlamda ele alınmıştır. Bu kapsamda, çalışmada öncelikle liberalizm tanımlanarak, demokrasinin temel unsurlarından hareketle ortaya çıktığı iddia edilen liberal bir sistemde medyanın konum ve işlevleri araştırılmış, liberal kurama dayalı işleyen bir sistemin ve bunun toplumdaki yansımalarının, kuramın savunduğu özgürlük ve demokrasi ile ne derece bağdaştığı sorgulanmıştır. Bu bağlamda bireysel hakları merkeze aldığını iddia eden liberal kuramın toplumda doğurduğu paradoksa dikkat çekilmiştir. Bununla birlikte, 1980’ler itibariyle liberal sistemin etkilerini hissettirmesiyle Türkiye’de yaşanan toplumsal dönüşümlere dikkat çekilmiştir. Çalışmanın sonraki kısmında ise, darbe ve neo-liberal politikaların yarattığı atmosferin yoğunlaştığı dönemde çekilen ve o dönemin sisteme ayak uydurmaya çalışırken arada kalan insanını konu ele alan Züğürt Ağa filmi Liberalizm kuramı ekseninde çözümlenmiş, filmdeki liberal unsurlar yapısalcı açıdan irdelenmiştir. Tema, anlatı yapısı, olay örgüsü ve karakterler bazında gerçekleştirilen analiz sonucunda, bu filmde liberal unsurlara yoğun olarak yer verildiği ve filmin Türkiye’nin toplumsal dönüşümünden önemli izler taşıdığı sonucuna ulaşılmış, ulaşılan bu sonuç ile çalışmada öne sürülen sav doğrulanmıştır. ANALYSIS OF THE SOCIAL TRACES OF LIBERALISM THROUGH THE FILM ZÜĞÜRT AĞA ABSTRACT In this study, liberalism and the emergence conditions of liberalism are examined and the relations between their causes and consequences are discussed in the social, economic, political and cultural context in the axis of the movie Zuğurt Ağa. In this context, after liberalism is defined, the position and functions of the media in a liberal system, which is claimed to have emerged from the basic elements of democracy, are investigated. It is questioned to what extent a functioning system based on liberal theory and its reflections in society are compatible with the freedom and democracy which are promised by the theory. In this context, attention has been drawn to the paradox created by the liberal theory, which claims to focus on individual rights. In the next part of the study, the film Zuğurt Ağa, which was shot during the period when the atmosphere created by the coup and neo-liberal policies was intensified, and which deals with the individuals who were trying to keep up with the changing system, was examined in the axis of Liberalism theory. On this basis, the liberal elements in the film are discussed from a structural perspective. As a result of the analysis carried out in terms of the theme, narrative structure, plot and characters, it was concluded that liberal elements are heavily included in this film, which also embodies important traces of Turkey's social transformation.
