Abstract
This paper evaluates the performance of several control methods for small-scale variable speed wind turbines (WTs) in wind energy systems (WES). The methods that will be studied are maximum power point tracking (MPPT) control for below rated wind speed operation and yaw and stall control for above rated wind speed operation. In the paper, the simulation platform used for the study is described, yaw and stall control are explained, and simulation results are presented then discussed. The paper concludes with a comparison between yaw control and stall control performance.
