Abstract

This paper is part of a series of researches on improving the acting force of a DC plunger-type electromagnet. In the optimization process, six geometric parameters concerning the magnet core dimensions, the coil aspect and the shape of the plunger support were taken into account. Using the optimization method based on design of experiments (DOE) and finite element method (FEM), a considerable improvement in the acting force has been achieved, maintaining the overall dimensions, in order not to affect the operating location and the coil cross-section, in order not to exceed the allowable heating.
