Abstract

This paper presents a new topology for transformerless rectifier for a battery charging unit (BCU) with a high power factor. The neutral grid terminal is connected to the negative battery terminal and to the ground. This is quite suitable for charging batteries, mounted in vehicles with one terminal, connected to the car body as it enables transformerless operation of the rectifier and safety exploitation. The topology has a simple circuit design, which allows for high efficiency, low cost and high reliability. The operating principle is based on the pulse width modulation and the operating mode is buck-boost.
