PARABLE AS A GENRE OF THE NEW TESTAMENT

Abstract

This article gives a definition of the concept of parable as one of the genres of the New Testament. The main communicative competences that form the specificity of the parable as a kind of genre are considered. An explanation of the relationship between a parable and a proverb is given, and examples from the Sermon on the Mount in the Gospel of Matthew are given. The article describes the extralinguistic and linguistic features of the parable, as well as emphasizes its metaphor.
