Beside infrastructure based networking, one-hop ad hoc communication for centrally coordinated single subnets is covered by a profile for home environments. The objective of a novel multiple-frequency forwarding technique, introduced in Peetz (2001) for the first time, was to overcome the restrictions of the one-hop configuration and to extend it to multihop ad hoc connectivity. This forwarding concept is very flexible in use and proved to fulfill even the quality of service requirements of MPEG video and constant bit rate traffic, see Peetz.
