Abstract
This paper aimed to explore the relationship between cosmetic surgery acceptance, objectified body Consciousness, and stress among South Asian students studying in China, and to provide a reference for mental health education in colleges. 301 South Asian students in a medical school in Shandong were investigated by using the Sociocultural Attitudes Towards Appearance Questionnaire-3, The Objectified Body Consciousness Scale, and The Acceptance of Cosmetic Surgery Scale. The Acceptance of Cosmetic Surgery Scale score of South Asian students in China was (48.790±19.873). The social dimension of The Acceptance of Cosmetic Surgery Scale (Z=1.976, P<0.05) in male students was higher than that in female students, and the difference was statistically significant. The acceptability of cosmetic surgery was positively correlated with pressure (r=0.175, P<0.01) and objectified body consciousness (r=0.181, P <0.01). Pressure not only directly affected the acceptability of cosmetic surgery, but also indirectly affected the acceptability of cosmetic surgery through an objectified body consciousness. Objectified body consciousness plays a partial mediating role in the relationship between stress and cosmetic surgery acceptance.
