Abstract
The aim of this work is to try to propose an alternative interpretation of the essence of digital money as a product of the development of information and telecommunication technologies, and to find the criteria for its quantitative assessment. The conducted research allowed us to trace the evolution of approaches to the interpretation of digital (electronic) money, which was modified under the influence of improving information and telecommunication technologies for its transfer. As one of the methods for studying digital money, we made a choice in favor of fractal geometry. Using its tools, we were able to justify the criteria for quantifying the flow of digital money. The process of encoding information, which embodies digital money the payer transfers to the payee by sending information messages through the appropriate communication channels, turned out to be fundamental.
