Abstract

Particle- and oil motion has been studied both in a bare metal gap and with electrodes covered with epoxy. Oil motion, probably due to ion injection from the electrodes, was observed at an AC field strength from 3 kv/mm with bare metal electrodes and from 6 kV/mm with epoxy covered electrodes. The presence of metallic particles strongly enhanced the turbulence of the oil.
