Abstract
In an electric power system, insulator plays a major role, it provides reliable operation to transmission and distribution system. Insulators are used to isolate the conductors from line to earth as well as to provide mechanical support, which prevents any leakage current from conductors to earth. When the insulator is installed in Industrial area, agriculture area, and coastal area, the salt is deposited on the surface of the insulators. It builds up gradually from a conductive film on the surface of the insulator. Finally, it results in the causes flashover on the surface of insulators. The aim of this work to analyze the performance of the insulators when energized by HVAC under artificial pollution coated. The laboratory-based pollution performance test is conducted on the insulator due to IEC60507 solid layer pollution method. The pollutant mixture in different ratios with equal intervals is used to coat by brushing method. ESDD levels are noted based on artificial pollution. Pollution is artificially created on the insulator both the silicone coated and without coating [insulators]. Finally, a comparison is made for coated and non-coated insulators under the sources of pollution.
