Abstract
For test and evaluation (T&E), an Electro-Optical Tracking System (EOTS) has a distinct edge over RF-based tracking systems. for various factors. Primarily, with passive optical sensors, the system provides real-time data/video of a target uninterruptedly, for a range depending on lens/optics assembly, as long as line-of-sight (LOS) is clear. The data furnished by EOTS is more precise and accurate in consideration with the law o.f Physics. Also, with modern day technologies like RF-jammer, stealth technology etc., EOTS offers the only solution for the T&E of such targets as a tracking system. The system has been used since 1950 s and continues to be a prime instrumentation system in the field of T&E. Even though the same technology is used for fire-control-system (FCS), this paper limits its purview for T &E only. A technological optimization is a major challenge in configuring EOTS for futuristic needs. In pursuit of this, this paper covers various technologies associated with EOTS that will help in understanding the basics of overall system.
