Digital heritage: An inventory of scientific journals in Honduras

Abstract

This study aimed to make the Honduran scientific heritage visible through the design of an inventory of academic journals by using tools from new information technologies. Existing journals were mapped by cross check methods and grouped for data analysis using the Tableau interactive data visualization platform. This tool allows navigation using variables like year of first publication, city of publisher, areas of scientific knowledge covered, state of publication, and some other criteria for journal indexing. Fifty-nine scientific journals have been established in the country since 1906. This inventory could guide the systematic quality assessment and the improvement of these journals, as well as the building of scientific digital heritage.
